Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
Names or locations submitted through a search tool are transmitted directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results; we do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Email messages are retained as needed to prepare and send a response. We keep that correspondence within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive limited technical information when a visitor loads a page, including:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when available
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device that help measure how the website is used, such as frequently visited pages and common exit points. Analytics providers combine this activity into traffic reports. Cookies can be disabled through browser controls, although doing so may change how certain site features operate.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving site performance
- Routing a submitted query to the appropriate search partner
- Understanding which content is useful to visitors
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database containing personal criminal records. The site provides general directions to Calhoun County record custodians, including the sheriff, criminal courts, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Georgia Crime Information Center, and the Georgia Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files. Georgia criminal-history dissemination is governed in part by O.C.G.A. §35-3-34.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search functions appearing on the site. Information entered there is governed by the relevant provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff, court, Georgia agency, legal-aid, or outside search websites. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy terms control. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted advertisements. We do not operate that tracking infrastructure.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- Outside search providers processing a visitor's submitted query
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement authorities when a valid legal demand compels disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the information we collect. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable Georgia and other privacy or consumer-protection laws may provide additional rights depending on a visitor's residence and circumstances. The Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. §50-18-70 et seq., governs access to qualifying government records and does not turn this private website into a government custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request access to personal information we maintain about you
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Request deletion where the law provides that right
- Object to or opt out of certain processing where applicable
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised from time to time. A revised version will be posted here and identified by its updated effective date.
